In Supine Woman, Wayne Thiebaud departs from his usual subjects of pies and cakes to turn to the human figure. Realizing that rendering the human figure is often considered a barometer of an artist’s very ability, Thiebaud painted Supine Woman in 1963. It represents one of his rare figurative works. The painting was acquired by Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in 2009.
